I aim to be lionhearted, but my hands still shake and my voice isn’t quite loud enough.

Zelda half jogged up the stairs to his hotel room - knocking twice before entering. "Alright. We need to go in about an hour." She started to set down her stuff before the smell hit her nose. Booze. She knew Indiana really well now. They had been working together for a while, and she stayed rather quiet about his alcoholism.

i think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy, because they know what it's like to feel absolutely worthless, and they don't want anybody else to feel like that

”Zelda. Thanks for letting yourself in,” he said sarcastically from lack of sleep, even though he had been fully prepared for her to come up to the room. They met and left an hour before the show started every night. Indiana screwed the lid back onto his whiskey and rolled the bottle under the bed so room service wouldn’t find it. ”You go on stage for me tonight, yeah? I’m fucking tired of it.”

"No, you need to go on stage. You need to sober up." He took the bottles and started throwing them in the trash. "Sit up. Get yourself some water." She started tossing out directions.

Indiana rolled his eyes and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge but just held it in his hands, not bothering to drink it. ”I do this all the time. I don’t need to get sober because they don’t know if I’m drunk. And if they do, they don’t give a shit. It’s still a good show.” He’d been fine before sound check because he’d been with Val, but afterwards, alone back in his room, he gave in to the booze. They’d been good about keeping it away from him, about restricting it, but Indiana knew people and places to quickly get it to him.

"Where is the coffee maker?" The female sighed, heading over to it. "Its irresponsible. You need to stop drinking." Zelda shook her hea, sighing.

He crossed his arms over his chest, still holding the plastic bottle of water in one hand, and looked at her with an annoyed expression. ”Thanks, haven’t heard that one before. I honestly don’t give a fuck right now. I’ll go do the show, and I’ll be fine just how I am.”

"Do your job Indiana." The female snapped. She had stayed silent. She had always stayed silent. She knew it wasn't her business to judge him. He was her boss afterall. She needed to be respectful and it wasn't her job to tell him what to do. "Your job is to go up there and perform. Not get hammered and do your job poorly because you needed to get drunk."

”Excuse me?” He’d had enough of everyone’s opinions and comments. ”I don’t pay you to tell me what to do.” Indiana took a step toward her. ”If anyone needs to be told to do their job correctly right now, it’s you. Stay in line. I didn’t hire you to care about my personal choices.” He stood there looking down at the smaller girl. ”Anything else you have to get off your chest?” Indiana said, the annoyed sarcasm weaved into his words.

"And I'm not paid enough to babysit an alcoholic." The second the words left her mouth - Zelda felt her anxiety rise up in her chest. "Fine. Don't listen to me. Be a drunk. Do whatever you want. But drink the coffee. I'll be backstage if you need anything." Irritation was clear in her voice.

”Not paid enough?” Indiana scoffed angrily, barely able to look at her. He glared. ”You want to go apply for another job that pays hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to an eighteen year old? Go ahead.” Pissed and wanting another drink, Indiana tossed the water onto the bed and quickly gathered up his coat, wallet, keys, and phone. ”Just take the night off. I’m getting security and heading over to the venue. Don’t bother checking on me in the morning. You can show yourself out whenever you’re done acting ungrateful towards me.” Indiana didn’t look at her as he walked past to the door.

Zelda left. She didn't know what else to say. Tears flodded her eyes when she was finally alone - unable to supress the panic attack that broke the surface.

the next morning

The female knocked twice - not wanting to step in on her own.

”I told you not to show up,” he said sternly as he opened the door. ”I’m kidding,” a small, tired smile formed on his lips. ”Come in.” Indiana headed over to the bed where he’d been getting ready and pulled his shirt on to complete his simple workout outfit. ”I’m leaving to go downstairs soon. What’s up?” He sat on the edge of the bed and looked at her with an exhausted expression.

"O-" Zelda started to panic before she realized it was a joke. The female stepped in and shut the door. "I called security to escort you wherever you were going. Your wife called me insisting on it." She felt her breath hitch in her throat as she tried to figure out how to act. "Where are you going?"

Indiana rolled his eyes at the comment. ”Like Ess gives a damn. Nice.” He hated the stalker for doing this to them, for making it impossible to go anywhere without having his hand held by a grown man. Security was the worst. ”To the gym. They’re not going with me. They can wait outside.”

"They can wait outside of the gym, yeah." Zelda nodded. She didn't want to argue with him. "I-I-" She stammered. "I'm sorry."
